From SimDemocracy Archives
Passed on the 2nd of March 2025
Preamble
Whereas bills that are passed by the senate currently become law immediately upon passage and are then struck down by Presidential veto,
Whereas this causes a great deal of confusion to the parties affected by the bill in question as well as the archivists,
Article 1
§1. When a bill passes in the senate, it is then delivered, by the Vice President, to the office of the President where they will have 72 hours to either approve or veto the bill.
- §1.1. In order to approve a bill, the President must make an announcement in the Presidential Announcements channel stating that the bill in question has passed. Once an announcement of approval is made, the bill immediately becomes a law.
- §1.2. In order to veto a bill, the President must make an announcement in the Presidential Announcements channel stating that the bill in question has been vetoed. Once an announcement of a veto is made, the bill is struck down and immediately returns to the Senate, where the veto may be overruled with a 2/3 majority vote.
- §1.3. Numerous bills in one announcement message are acceptable if they have accumulated in the President's office. They may all be approvals, vetoes, or a combination of each.
- §1.4. If the Vice President is unavailable or inactive in the eight (8) hours after a bill passes in the Senate, then the Speaker of the Senate shall inherit the responsibility to present the passed bills to the President.
- §1.5. If the President performs no action on a bill for 72 hours after it has passed in the Senate, the bill automatically passes and becomes law. This deadline may not be extended.
