No Kings No Knights Amendment

Whereas currently the highest honor bestowed in SimDemocracy is “Knighthood”,

Whereas these gives the title “Sir”, “Noble”, or “Dame”,

Recognizing when tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty,

Believing that nobility has no place in SimDemocracy.

The following is hereby passed into law:

§1. The first Article of the Honours and Commendations Act 2023 is to be replaced in its entirety with the following:

    “Article 1: Order of the Painted Wolf
    §1. Fellowship in the Order of the Painted Wolf (hereby referred to as simply “the order”) shall be the highest honour the State of SimDemocracy can give, and it shall be given to citizens who have made legendarily positive contributions to SimDemocracy.
    §2. A person shall only be eligible for entry into the order if they:
         §2.1. Already have a National Commendation, with their oldest National Commendation being given at least six (6) months prior to nomination, and
         §2.2. Have not yet entered the Order.
    §3. For an eligible person to enter into the order, they must:
         §3.1. Be jointly nominated by the President, the Speaker of the Senate, and the Chief Justice with unanimous consensus and, 
         §3.2. Have the nomination confirmed by the Senate with a two-thirds (⅔) majority.
    §4. A revocation of a person’s National Commendation shall automatically revoke their fellowship.
    §5. Entry into the order shall confer a person the right to use the official title of “Fellow of the Order of the Painted Wolf”, or simply “Fellow”.”

§2. All other references to “Knighthood” throughout the rest of the act shall be replaced with “Fellowship”

§3. The following text shall be placed below the Explanatory notes:

“No Kings No Knights Amendment Explanatory Notes

The original explanatory notes are left untouched for posterity, but I (Ivy Cactus NC) think it’s important to explain why they don’t align with the current version of the law. SimDemocracy is based on fundamentally Republican values. We were forged by Revolution and our culture is based on the concept that “When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty”. Due to this it seemed strange our highest honor would bestow the undemocratic concept of nobility. It made people unwilling to bestow it and unwilling to accept it. So instead we now turn to the example of our national animal, the ever loyal Painted Wolf. Hopefully its name will bring pride to those who rise to this honor. Ave Simdemocracy.”
