Senate Records Act
Preamble
Whereas: The Senate Docket Establishment Act was intended to make senate voting records easily accessible in a specialized #senate-docket channel. Whereas: The #senate-docket channel is instead being used to track future debates and votes. The following act is hereby proposed.
Article 1: Appointment and Dismissal of the Senate Clerk
§1. The Speaker of the Senate shall appoint a Senate Clerk within 3 days of the position becoming vacant.
- §1.1. If the Speaker of the Senate was elected after the Senate Clerk position became vacant, then the Speaker of the Senate shall have 3 days after their election to appoint a Senate Clerk.
§2. The Speaker of the Senate possesses the right to dismiss the Senate Clerk at any time.
Article 2: Duties of the Senate Clerk
§1. The Senate Clerk will be responsible for maintaining records of the following activities:
- §1.1. Motions (as defined under the Revised Senate Procedures Act 2023 or other applicable legislation) raised in the Senate, including the one who raised each motion and the date in the UTC timezone
- §1.2. Actions of the Speaker of the Senate and the President in relation to previous motions that were passed
- §1.3. Voting stance of each Senator on the motion and, if applicable, the bill in question
- §1.4. Petitions under the Petition Act 2024 that reach an amount of votes equal to the number of Senate seats plus 2
§2. Each record must include the URL for the post on the r/SimDemocracy subreddit or the SimDemocracy Discord.

§3. The records maintained by the Senate Clerk must be released to the public via a channel on the SimDemocracy Discord under the Senate category with the title #senate-records.
- §3.1. The records for each Senate shall be contained in a dedicated Google Sheets spreadsheet that has been posted in the #senate-records channel.
- §3.2. Each Senate will have a tab dedicated to displaying the records from that Senate.
- §3.3. The #senate-records channel may not be used for any other purposes.
§3. The records maintained by the Senate Clerk must be released to the public via a channel on the SimDemocracy Discord under the Senate category with the title #senate-records.
- §3.1. Each Senate shall have a Google Sheets spreadsheet dedicated to containing the records for that Senate that has been posted in the #senate-records channel.
- §3.2. The #senate-records channel may not be used for any other purposes.
§4. Upon appointment, a new Senate Clerk shall be responsible for recording any activities listed in == Article 2 §1. that occurred up to 7 days before their appointment. ==
- §4.1. The Senate Clerk shall not be responsible for recording any activities that occurred over 7 days before their appointment.
§5. After the completion of an activity listed in Article 2 §1., the Senate Clerk shall have 3 days to add a record of it.
- §5.1. If the activity was completed before the Senate Clerk was appointed, they shall instead have 3 days from the time of their appointment to add a record of the activity.
Article 3: Rights of the Senate Clerk
§1. The Senate Clerk must be paid a minimum of 150 tau each week. The Speaker of the Senate may increase this value at their discretion.
§2. The Senate Clerk may resign at any time by informing the Speaker of the Senate of their decision to do so.
- §2.1. The Senate Clerk will only lose their position if they resign or if the Speaker of the Senate dismisses them.
§3. The Senate Clerk may declare an absence for a length of time of up to 7 days.
- §3.1. The Senate Clerk shall not be required to complete their duties during an absence.
- §3.2. After an absence ends, the Senate Clerk shall have 3 days to complete any duties put on hold during the absence.
- §3.3. The Senate Clerk will not be paid for the time of their absence.
Article 4: Repeals (Repealed)
§1. The Senate Docket Establishment Act shall immediately be repealed.
- §1.1. This repeal will include the elimination of the clerk position.
